NamWater sponsors various ventures and projects, to demonstrate its appreciation for the support NamWater receives from the Namibian society, which inter alia include its customers, local authorities, town councils, municipalities and government.
Donations or Sponsorships of this nature are part of NamWater’s ongoing social initiatives, aimed at giving something back to its communities.
NamWater attaches value to the environment. The corporation makes it a priority to honour environment days such as World Wetlands Day, that aims to sensitise our people about the importance of wetlands to us. The World Water Day (WWD) is organised by NamWater each year in conjunction with other stakeholders. The corporation sponsors a trip to and from the venue of celebrations for school children who are normally are invited to take part in the activities of the WWD.
NamWater is actively involved in assisting its employees to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge base. The company recognises the momentous changes taking place in all spheres of life and assists its human resources to cope in this competitive environment.
Education materials as well as information on careers in the water sector are made available especially during industrial shows. At the same time, each year, NamWater sponsors bursaries to Namibian students for studies in natural, but also social sciences in institutions in Namibia and SADC.
The water utility runs a vocational training centre called Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC) based at its Central Regional office in Okahandja. The Centre offers training to NamWater and also to employees from other institutions in various fields. Young people who are not in the employ of NamWater are trained in different trades such as general electricity, carpentry and joinery, bricklaying, water care and auto/diesel mechanics.
