Why is it that our water bills keep rising and who is responsible for reading the water meter?   I have never seen anyone come to check my water meter which is located inside our house.

    • Water consumers in Namibia could either be customers of NamWater, the Regional Councils or the Local Authorities. All three of these entities are supposed to read their clients' water meters and send out water accounts on a regular basis. Water meters are generally read every second month to save on cost and water accounts are supposed to be distributed on a monthly basis. The amounts charged for the months when no readings are taken, are the average reading for that particular water meter.
    • The individual customer will receive only one water bill—from NamWater or from the Regional Council, or from the Local Authority—depending on whose customer they are. NamWater has water supply contracts signed for each of its customers. Regional Councils and Local Authorities could also be customers of NamWater who supply water in bulk to these entities.

NamWater only suspends water supply as a last resort to compel customers to pay their water accounts. When NamWater cuts water supply to defaulting Regional Councils or Local Authorities, the individual customers of these authorities will also be affected, although they are not direct customers of NamWater. Unfortunately, even the individual customers that have settled their water bills to these authorities will be without water if the mentioned authority does not pay its water bill to NamWater.
