    • Operate and maintain all pump stations
    • Add chlorine to reservoirs as needed
    • Do regular quality control checks
    • Maintain pipelines and reservoir
    • Read water meters

Responsible role players in this process

The various role players in this process are the Department of Water Affairs in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, NamWater, Regional Councils, Local Authorities, and private entities. The actual involvement of the various entities differs from place to place.

Department of Water Affairs

  • Custodians of the Water Act
  • Source development
  • Regulator

NamWater
Mainly bulk water supplier but involved in all aspects of water supply as set out in paragraphs 1 to 6 above.

Regional Councils
Only involved in the distribution of water

Local Authorities
Mainly involved in the distribution of water, but could also be involved in all aspects of water supply as set out in paragraphs 1 to 6 above.

Private Entities 
They could be involved in all aspects of water supply, as set out in paragraphs 1 to 6 above.
