Water Supply Department
The main objective of the department is to provide water of an appropriate quality in sufficient and sustainable quantities, in the most cost-effective way. The key tasks then is to abstract, distribute and purify water as per required national standards while planning for water demands in short, medium and long-term sce na rios.
Planning for the construction of new infrastructure for water supply is the responsibility of the Planning Division. Prior to the abstraction phase, the Planning Division ensures that the necessary permits for the abstraction from boreholes, rivers and dams have been secured from the Department of Water Affairs.
The Water Supply Department also monitors that the annual water abstraction and production figures for each scheme are meeting the annual water demand for the customers. It thus ensures that short, medium and long-term planning for water demand and supply is executed and implemented.
In addition, the department ensures that the necessary consultations with the existing and potential customers have taken place on water demand, and the necessary contracts have been entered into.
All three regional divisions are tasked with the purification of water from their respective schemes such that the Corporation can supply water to the customers in required quantity and with quality as guided by the national standards.
