Purpose of use

Potable water supply to Henties Bay , Swakopmund,
Arandis and Rössing and Langer Heinrich Mines.

Brief description of system

Water is abstracted from 40 boreholes in the Omdel aquifer over a distance of 30 km and is collected in the Omdel Collector reservoir from where it is transferred to the Swakopmund Terminal Reservoir by means of a 700 mm diameter, 85 km long pre-stressed concrete pipeline. Except for the submersible pump sets installed in the boreholes, the rest of the system is operated by gravity.
