Description of Plant :

The Okakarara treatment plant obtains its water from a canal, which is mainly supplied with groundwater from the Kombat Mine. Only two treatment steps are necessary since this water is fairly clean.

The raw-water from the canal is pumped directly into sand filters for filtration. To keep them clean, these are backwashed automatically as the need arises. To disinfect the water it is then chlorinated as it flows from the filters to the clear water storage reservoir.

The water is then pumped to the town of Okakarara and to rural areas further to the east.
