The Outapi Treatment Plant produces drinking water for Outapi Town , Onakayale Centre and three rural schemes, namely Ombalantu, North A & B.
The treatment of water starts at the flash mixer , where flocculants and chlorine are added to the water. The flocculant is added for the process of flocculation to start and the chlorine is dosed to kill any micro-organisms that may be in the water. Our package plant uses only flocculants without lime.
From the flash mixer the water flows through the flocculation tank , where the flocculants binds the suspended clay particles into bigger particles referred to as “floc”.
From the flocculation tank, the water goes into the clarifier for the next treatment step. In the clarifier, the floc sinks to the bottom, while the clean water with some smaller suspended particles overflows into steel channels, taking the water to the filter sump.
The next step is the filtration process where the water seeps through sand filters and finally goes to the concrete reservoir. Post chlorination is added at this stage.
The clear water is now ready for distribution to the customers and the elevated tower for Municipalities of Outapi and Onakayale Centre.
